چکیده

BACKGROUND The increase in obesity in the general population brings more frequent challenges in imaging, as an increasing number of patients exceed the weight or girth limits of existing computed tomogram (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) scanners. We describe a technique used for plain CT and CT angiogram of the head in a morbidly obese patient. CASE REPORT A 46-year-old man presented to the emergency department describing sudden onset headache, described as the worst headache of his life and associated with nausea and vomiting. He had a complete left third cranial nerve palsy. The working diagnosis was subarachnoid haemorrhage, possibly from rupture of a left posterior communicating artery aneurysm. To confirm the diagnosis, CT head and/or lumbar puncture were contemplated. However, the patient was 6 feet 6 inches tall, and weighed 560 lbs. Lumbar puncture was considered and felt to represent a significant technical challenge. Some form of LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

An assessment of the Doses Received by Children from CT Examinations Along with the QC Parameters from a Conventional CT System

Introduction: In 2000, the UNSCEAR reported that CT constitutes 5% of all the medical x-ray  examinations and it contributes 34% of the resultant collective dose worldwide. Children are more  sensitive to the ionizing radiations than adults. So, routine quality control tests are expected to be  carried out periodically on the CT scanners. The aim of this research was to estimate the effective  ...

Thyroid dose and dose reduction method from CT scan of head and neck

Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) consists of 11% of all imaging methods, but accounts for approximately 67% of radiation exposure due to diagnostic cases. More than one-third of all CT scans are done in the head and neck area. The thyroid gland is irradiated during CT head and neck. According to studies, this gland has the highest levels of radiation-induced cancer, and i...
